As we come up on the the busiest time of the year for most, I wanted to take a minute and talk about what AIGA Idaho has been working on. One of my stated goals when I took office as President is to start an AIGA Idaho design awards competition. I'm happy to announce that we now have a committee laying the framework for that, and you should see a call for entries in the coming months. I believe that we have a responsibility to recognize the great design work that is coming out of our community, judged from an outside perspective. Our friends at the Idaho Advertising Federation have done a great job of recognizing work in the field of marketing and advertising, and it's our goal to do the same for design. Of course, as with any new initiative, there are myriad unknowns to balance. At the core of it, the real question is "What would our members see value in, in terms of a design competition?" I put that question out to you, and welcome your insight and feedback as we put this into motion. Please feel free to email me directly at president@aigaidaho.org.

Hello again to all of our members, friends and supporters of design in Idaho. Midway through August, and with summer starting to wind down, we are starting to see our fall programming come to shape. To kick things off, we have an exciting event coming up in a couple of weeks at World Cycle, where AIGA Idaho member Glenn Rummler will talk a bit about his retail design process.
Greetings fellow AIGA Members and members of the design community. As I take over as president of AIGA Idaho, I can't help but be excited for what's in store. I am fortunate to have a stellar board filled with some truely motivated folks. We are all here for the same reason: to improve and give back to the community, and work to make Idaho a better place for design.

Day 2 of the AIGA Leadership Retreat was once again filled with great insight about the organization and design community, and what we can be doing to help foster it. Our focus today was on initiatives such as Design for Good and The Living Principles. These are two great programs to help empower designers to give back to their communities. If you haven't already checked them out, I highly recommend doing so.

I just finished the first day of the AIGA Leadership Retreat, and words can't express how motivated I am about the future of AIGA Idaho. I came here with the goal of learning as much as I could in three days to help my carry out my duties as President of AIGA Idaho, and already I have gotten loads of great insight and advice from some of AIGA's most talented and passionate folks, both on the national staff and from other chapters.
