Board Members

We think it’s really kick-ass smart when professionals actually profess something, take a stand, and move their industry forward. That’s why with the AIGA Idaho Chapter board members, you’ll find working peeps from all disciplines—from designers, art directors, illustrators, and writers to account executives, planners, accountants, and more. It’s simple really, design is all about business from top to bottom, why not represent. The best part, we know how to throw a party.

See who’s currently not asleep at the wheel:

Steve Norell

Steve Norell

President

Steve became involved with AIGA at the student level, serving on the board of the AIGA Boise State Student Group. He graduated from Boise State with a BFA in Graphic Design, during which time he earned beer money by working as the production manager for The Arbiter (the student newspaper of Boise State), as a Graphic Designer in the Student Union Promotions Office, a freelance designer for the Boise Co-op and various other odd print and web gigs.

After graduation, he hung around the board of AIGA, and is currently the Interactive Director. He is working as an Interaction Designer at Creative Soapbox. When not wrangling pixels in Photoshop, Steve likes to pedal around on a bicycle, printmake (can that be used as a verb?) and try to teach his incredibly awkward dog how to fetch.

Nicole Cahill

Nicole Cahill

Membership Outreach

As a recent graduate from Boise State University, with a BFA in Graphic Design, Nicole is now coming to terms with the fact that Ramen Noodles and purple Popsicles may not qualify as a nutritionally balanced diet like she once believed. During her time at BSU she interned with the insanely creative folks at Drake Cooper and also did some work for Boise State’s Health and Wellness Department. It’s also believed she might be the reason people who work at either of these places no longer leave their candy jars out on their desks. When she’s not creating colorful logos or quirky packaging, she can usually be found on her computer lost in the newest design blog to hit the web. She has recently been rewarded the title of Freelance Extraordinaire, we’re just not sure by whom.

Nicole became involved in AIGA BSU in her senior year as treasurer. She looks forward to her new position on the AIGA professional board where she will dutifully be working to enlist new talents to share their thoughts and ideas with the ever-growing design community by becoming AIGA members.

Nicolet Laursen

Nicolet Laursen

Programming Coordinator

It’s uncommon to find a designer and a developer in one person, but Nicolet is just that. She began building her unique skill set as a student at Boise State University. During her student years, she interned as a graphic designer at the Idaho State Lottery & Boise State University. She began her professional career as a promotions coordinator at Taco Bell Arena. From 2008 to 2011 she refined her web development skills working as an interactive designer at Balihoo. Now she runs her own web design & development company, Letto Design.

Nicolet spent her childhood in two beautiful resort towns, Lake Tahoe & Coeur d’Alene. When she isn’t creating websites, you can usually find her painting in her studio or running in the foothills. She is an active member in the community and a strong supporter of volunteerism. In 2011, she spent 2 weeks in San Carlos, Costa Rica, as a volunteer english teacher. Nicolet is also on the board of the AIGA and a member of Indie Made (a local artist Co-op).

John Briggs

John Briggs

Interactive Director

In Junior High and High School, while other kids were out making friends and being normal, John was busy in his parents basement cobbling together computer graphics (Photosho-what?! – he was rocking xRes ) and trying to learn computer programming. After high school, in a desperate attempt not to sell out, he moved to Vancouver, Canada as a full-time volunteer and spent 3 years traveling to several continents, editing video, and growing one amazing fro. Money ran dry and it was time to sell out. He returned to Boise and spent more time than a normal person does getting his BFA in Graphic Design at Boise State and graduated in 2009. He's now an interactive designer at Rizen Creative.
